SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE:
Oceanside Municipal Pier has sea birds, fish, sunsets
and more. Whether you enjoy strolling, grabbing a bite to eat, bird watching, watching the surfers catch a wave, or
fishing, there is allot to do at the Oceanside Municipal Pier.
HISTORY OF THE MUNICIPAL PIER:
The first Oceanside Pier was built in 1888 at Wisconsin
Street and five piers being built and reconstructed where the existing pier now stands at Pier View Way. The concrete approach
to the pier was built in 1925 and still stands today.
At 1,954 feet, Oceanside Pier is the longest wooden pier
on the West Coast. No fishing license is required to fish from the pier.
Ruby's Restaurant, at the end of the pier, is a peaceful,
nice place to eat and watch the sunset.
As you stroll the pier, you will see engraved names on
the wooden side rails. These names are the local citizens who cared enough about the 1988 restoration of the pier to
make a private donation to the reconstruction effort. Surfing is excellent year round, with many world class competetions
held here every year.
OTHER OCEANSIDE INFORMATION:
The beaches are 3.5 miles of beautiful soft sand with
playgrounds for the children, volleyball sand courts and fire rings for bonfires in the evening. There are always lifeguards
on duty and emergency services available as well as police patrols on the beach. Vendors along the beach at the pier stand
ready to serve your favorite hot or cold beverage and a great hotdog or hamburger and ice cream.
One mile north, the Oceanside Harbor offers both day
and half day fishing and whale watching trips. There are many restaurants and beach oriented shops along the walkway.
